I *Really* Heart Walgreen's! 1/26/10

All this for less than $25!
All This for $194.91 $24.27!
Seriously, this is one of my best Walgreen's days *ever*! It wasn't just the amount saved, (87%-I'll get to that in a minute), but the type and quantity of items I got today. Included in all this (the photo is awful, sorry, I had to use my cell phone camera because the digital one isn't working), are 3 packs of Huggies Diapers which just for those would have cost more than I paid for everything you see there (even buying them on sale this week), along with 8 packs of shavers which are normally $7.50 each.
Here's how it went down: I walked in to the first Walgreen's (I have 2 I consider "local" - one near my husband's workplace and one right near home), with a $10 Register Reward from the Pepsi/Tostitos deal. My goal in this store was to pay less than $5/pack on the Huggies diapers. But first I had to spend $10 RR. I could have gone straight for the diapers and used the $10, but I decided to get a bunch of other stuff super cheap or free.

I really like Pert Plus for my kids when they go swimming. It makes the after-swim shower very fast. I also need to keep plenty of the Pert Plus for Men on hand at my house, not just for my husband, but for my 8yo son. It's a 3-in-1 shampoo, conditioner and body wash and after the first time I got some of this for free, he told me he no longer wanted to use the "kid stuff" for body wash because, "I'm not a little kid anymore."

Pick n' Save Deal Alert! Free Ronzoni Pasta, Free Fisher Nuts, $.25 Ken's Dressing!
This week Pick n' Save has some excellent deals on kosher grocery items. Match the sale with coupons that came out in last week's Sunday Smart Source insert to maximize savings.
Here are three that stood out to me. The totals I give are for Wednesday, January 20. The sale is all week, but I only shop at Pick N' Save on Wednesdays when they double the first 5 coupons up to $1 in value.
Ken's Dressing, 2/$4.50
Use $1/1 Ken's Dressing Q from SS 1/10 (doubles to $2/1)
Total: $.25ea.
Ronzoni Smart Taste or Healthy Harvest Pasta, buy 1 @ $1.89, get 1 free
Use $1/2 Ronzoni Pasta Internet Printable from here (doubles to $2/2 which will most likely reset automatically to $1.89, but I won't be sure until they scan the coupon)
Total: 2 for FREE (possible, but unlikely, overage of $.11)
OR
Ronzoni Smart Taste, buy 1 @ $1.89, get 1 free
Use $.75/1 MQ from Smart Source Insert 12/06/09
Total: 2/$.39 or $.20ea.
Fisher Dry Roasted Peanuts, buy 1 @ $3.15, get 1 free
Use $1/1 Fisher Nuts MQ (these have been coming out regularly for a couple months)
Total: $1.15/2 or $.58ea.
For Pick N' Save Double Daze, your total has to be $25 or more *after* you swipe your PNS card. Then the first five coupons you hand the cashier will double if the value of the coupon is $1 or less. I generally get my total up to $25 with sale produce (this week it's all about onions and potatoes).
Hot Deal Alert:: Free ThermaCare @ Walgreen's Jan 10-16
Here's the deal: Next week Walgreen's will run a Register Rewards deal on ThermaCare patches - Thermacare Heat Wrap Neck/Arm single (TRIAL SIZE) for $2.49, receive $2.49 Register Rewards making them free! (Actually, since Register Rewards always round up to the next quarter, it will be $2.50 RR, making it an extra penny.)
Here's the hot part: There are printable coupons for $1 off any ThermaCare from Wyeth. The coupon does not exclude trial size or single packs, so you can use this Q for the deal.
Here's the breakdown:
ThermaCare 2 pack: $2.49
Use $1 Q
Total $1.49
Receive $2.50 Register Rewards
Profit: $1 each one you have a coupon for
I plan on rolling the Register Rewards I'm getting from this week's Kellogg's deal. You'll need a filler since it will be less than $2 with the coupon. There are several useful items on sale next week to use as fillers such as knee high's and cleaning gloves (there are many others, so when the ad comes out just look through and find items that total $.51 or more).
Here's the example:
ThermaCare: $2.49
Pack of Knee Hi's: $.25
Pack of latex Gloves (in-ad Wag's Q): $.39
Use $1 ThermaCare Q
Subtotal: $2.13
Pay with $2 RR from this week's Kellogg's deal
Total OOP: $.13
Receive $2.50 Register Rewards
Rinse and repeat.
A note about Register Rewards: If you use RR's you receive from one promotion to pay for the same items again, you won't get more RR's. For instance, if I go ahead and use the $2 I got from previous Kellogg's this week to buy more Kellogg's, I won't get another $2 Register Reward. Also, if the deal is for Register Rewards back when you buy 2 of a certain product and you buy 4 or 6 or however many more, you won't get additional RR's for the extras you buy in one transaction. This is why learning how to "roll" Register Rewards is important and I've posted many posts showing how I do this.
Quick Stop for Free Stuff at CVS 12/20
I haven't been to CVS for a couple months. There wasn't really much to be all excited about and honestly I was getting a bit overwhelmed trying to catch every deal that came around at every store every week. So for the past few months I've been concentrating on Walgreen's and grocery shopping.
This week, however, it seemed worth a quick stop. They had extra buck back on a Listerine and Revlon and I had expiring coupons to use, so I decided to get some free stuff but not to hold on to the Extra Bucks.
Doing multiple transactions and rolling over the Extra Bucks is easy at CVS once you know how to do it, especially at the one I shop at. In fact, the first time I ever used my CVS card and rolled over extra bucks, the cashier helped me step by step through 5 transactions.
Here's what I got in four transactions on Sunday:
#1
Listerine 500ml, $3.99
Used "Free Listerine up to $5.00" coupon I got in the mail after calling up Listerine and asking for coupons
Total: Free
Received $3.00 Extra Bucks
#2
Nivea body Wash, $5.99
Used $2 off Nivea Body Wash printable coupon from Coupons.com
Used $3 Extra Bucks from transaction #1
Total: $.99
Received $5 Extra Bucks
#3
Revlon Super Luster Lipstick, $6.99
Used $2 Revlon coupon (expired that day which is what sent me into CVS in the first place)
Used $5 Extra Bucks (it actually just took off $4.99, but unlike Walgreen's you don't need a "filler" if your Extra Bucks are more than your total)
Total: Free
Received $5 Extra Bucks
#4
2 gallons whole milk (not pictured), $2.79 ea. = $5.58
Used $5 Extra Bucks
Total: $.58
Total value of purchases: $22.55
Total out-of-pocket: $1.57 (or about what half a gallon of milk would have cost)
Savings by combining coupons with sales and "rolling" Extra Bucks": $20.98 or 93%
Free Olay Quench Lotion Mail-in Rebate!
Here's a rebate worth sending for: Get Olay Quench Lotion free after mail-in rebate. I got 2 bottles of this last week during the Walgreen's holiday Register Rewards craziness and I was so happy to find out about this rebate. I usually don't send in for rebates because they always seem like such a hassle for only a dollar or two. But this form is simple, I have the receipts and products handy, it's for the full value of both bottles ($9.99 each) and you can submit for up to two rebates on one form so I'm definitely sending this one in. I'll get just under $20 back! Woo Hoo! Yay for rebates! Yay for Olay! Yay for full size free stuff!Click here to view and print the rebate form.
By the way, I didn't know about this rebate at all when I bought this last week. I found out about it looking around the MySavings.com website to see any new free samples and coupons. Click here to register at MySavings.com. This is one of my favorite sites for genuine free sample offers and coupons (and now "worth the hassle" rebates!)
