I *Really* Heart Walgreen's! 1/26/10

All this for less than $25!

All this for less than $25!

All This for  $194.91 $24.27!
Seriously, this is one of my best Walgreen's days *ever*!  It wasn't just the amount saved, (87%-I'll get to that in a minute), but the type and quantity of items I got today.  Included in all this (the photo is awful, sorry, I had to use my cell phone camera because the digital one isn't working), are 3 packs of Huggies Diapers which just for those would have cost more than I paid for everything you see there (even buying them on sale this week), along with 8 packs of shavers which are normally $7.50 each.
Here's how it went down:  I walked in to the first Walgreen's (I have 2 I consider "local" - one near my husband's workplace and one right near home), with a $10 Register Reward from the Pepsi/Tostitos deal.  My goal in this store was to pay less than $5/pack on the Huggies diapers.  But first I had to spend $10 RR.  I could have gone straight for the diapers and used the $10, but I decided to get a bunch of other stuff super cheap or free.

I really like Pert Plus for my kids when they go swimming.  It makes the after-swim shower very fast.  I also need to keep plenty of the Pert Plus for Men on hand at my house, not just for my husband, but for my 8yo son.  It's a 3-in-1 shampoo, conditioner and body wash and after the first time I got some of this for free, he told me he no longer wanted to use the "kid stuff" for body wash because, "I'm not a little kid anymore."  :D

Remember I posted about the ThermaCare deal at Walgreen's this week?  I've already done that exact transaction twice this week.  Here's just one example of how I've put this in action this week to roll more Register Rewards.  Here's what I got at 2 stores in 3 transactions:

Used $10 Register Rewards ($2.50 ThermaCare x 4)
Total Out of Pocket:  $.06
Received $2 Register Rewards (Colgate)

Total value of purchases: $31.40
Total Out of Pocket:  $.95
Total Savings matching sales with coupons and "rolling" Register Rewards: $30.45 or 97%

Summary:  For less than the cost of one package of gloves or one box of Kleenex, I got 1 box of Kleenex, 2 packages of cleaning gloves, a pair of knee-highs, a Sharpie mini, a glue stick, 2 ThermaCare patches, 2 Colgate toothbrushes and a package of diapers!

Hot Deal Alert:: Free ThermaCare @ Walgreen's Jan 10-16

Here's the deal:  Next week Walgreen's will run a Register Rewards deal on ThermaCare patches - Thermacare Heat Wrap Neck/Arm single (TRIAL SIZE) for $2.49, receive $2.49 Register Rewards making them free!  (Actually, since Register Rewards always round up to the next quarter, it will be $2.50 RR, making it an extra penny.)

Here's the hot part:  There are printable coupons for $1 off any ThermaCare from Wyeth.  The coupon does not exclude trial size or single packs, so you can use this Q for the deal.

Here's the breakdown:

ThermaCare 2 pack:  $2.49
Use $1 Q
Total $1.49
Receive $2.50 Register Rewards
Profit:  $1 each one you have a coupon for

I plan on rolling the Register Rewards I'm getting from this week's Kellogg's deal.  You'll need a filler since it will be less than $2 with the coupon.  There are several useful items on sale next week to use as fillers such as knee high's and cleaning gloves (there are many others, so when the ad comes out just look through and find items that total $.51 or more).

Here's the example:
ThermaCare:  $2.49
Pack of Knee Hi's: $.25
Pack of latex Gloves (in-ad Wag's Q):  $.39
Use $1 ThermaCare Q
Subtotal:  $2.13
Pay with $2 RR from this week's Kellogg's deal
Total OOP:  $.13
Receive $2.50 Register Rewards

Rinse and repeat.

A note about Register Rewards:  If you use RR's you receive from one promotion to pay for the same items again, you won't get more RR's.  For instance, if I go ahead and use the $2 I got from previous Kellogg's this week to buy more Kellogg's, I won't get another $2 Register Reward.  Also, if the deal is for Register Rewards back when you buy 2 of a certain product and you buy 4 or 6 or however many more, you won't get additional RR's for the extras you buy in one transaction.  This is why learning how to "roll" Register Rewards is important and I've posted many posts showing how I do this.
